Mission Update

As CBF of Virginia missionaries, we serve with and among our Latinos friends and neighbors in a variety of ways. The past 12 months have witnessed the development of a local ecumenical ministry effort in the greater Fredericksburg area called LUCHA Ministries. Through LUCHA Ministries, we attempt to address the needs of the Latino community where we live through incarnational, holistic Christian ministry. Please click on the link at left to find out more about LUCHA Ministries, or go to our website at www.luchaministries.org.

Another part of our work as CBFV missionaries involves the Latino Network of Virginia Baptists. The Latino Network is a Christian fellowship of Virginia Baptists whose partners include the Virginia Baptist Mission Board, WMU of Virginia, Baptist Theological Seminary at Richmond, the John Leland Center for Theological Studies, and CBFV. With Dr. Daniel Carro as convener, the Latino Network seeks to:
(1) provide training opportunities and resources for Latino congregations and leaders;
(2) develop a collaborative force among Baptists in Virginia to address the identified needs of Latino communities;
(3) foster a sense of familia (family) that bridges cultural diversity among Baptists in Virginia; and
(4) establish a communication network among Baptists in Virginia committed to serving Latino communities.
Major Latino Network events for 2005 are the Segundo Encuentro for pastors and leaders (April), a pastors retreat (August), and celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month (September-October).

Our primary commitment to all Baptist congregations across Virginia is one of promotion and facilitation of missions. We are available to churches or associations on Sundays or during the week to provide consultation and direct assistance in support of their efforts to reach the Latino communities where they live and serve. We also take great pleasure in sharing with local churches what God is doing through CBFV missions, LUCHA Ministries, or even the Latino Network of Virginia Baptists. Plus, we anticipate raising the awareness of churches about CBFV's new Shared Visions Missions Campaign and its support both of Latino missions and of general church planting efforts among all population groups in Virginia .

Que Dios bendiga la obra misionera de las iglesias bautistas en Virginia, y del Compañerismo Bautista Cooperativo de Virginia. Gracias por tus oraciones y tu apoyo. (May God bless the missionary work of the Baptist churches in Virginia , and of the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship of Virginia. Thank you for your prayers and your support).

We invite you to pray with us for Latino missions across Virginia.

Please pray for the Latino community in Virginia. Pray for their spiritual, economic, language, legal, and cultural needs.

• Please pray for the churches and associations who are reaching out to their Latino neighbors. Praise God for their service and call to this wonderful community of people.

• Please pray for the churches, associations and others who are earnestly considering ministry to Latinos. Pray for God's leadership as they meet, plan, and prepare for this challenge.

• Please pray for the Latino Network of Virginia Baptists. Ask God to direct the Latino Network to become increasingly an authentic means of support and assistance to the Latino Baptist pastors and churches across Virginia .

• Please pray for our efforts as CBFV missionaries to assist local churches, associations and others across Virginia in ministry to Latinos in Christ's name. Pray that we might be effective witnesses for God's kingdom wherever we go.
