Team from King's Grant Baptist Church served in Johannesburg , South Africa

In April 2005, a team of eight members of King's Grant Baptist Church, Virginia Beach, traveled 8500 miles to South Africa to partner with Cooperative Baptist Fellowship missionaries Scott & Ana Houser in inner-city Johannesburg.

The King's Grant team, led by Associate Pastor Skip Wallace, brought a variety of skills that they used in focusing on human needs and evangelism. Skip is fluent in Xhosa and very knowledgeable of the culture from his own 11 years as a missionary in South Africa. The team included a dentist, a medical services expert, and several people skilled in building repair and construction.

While in Johannesburg, a city of 3 million with a jobless rate of 37% and a homeless population estimated at 3000-5000, the team helped with feeding programs, worked with street youth, ministered to AIDS victims, performed dental exams, performed first aid, worked with children, conducted basic construction and maintenance projects, and did evangelical preaching.

The experience was hugely rewarding for the team and enabled them to see firsthand what God is doing “among the least of these.” King's Grant hopes to make follow-up South African mission trips an annual component of its outreach efforts.
