“There are lots of opportunities. Iranians and Afghans are very hospitable. Iranian women in English classes I taught have asked me over and over if I could help them find an American friend.”

So, do we ignore the Muslims in our neighborhoods? Do we fear them? Maybe we have succumbed to the media's presentation and believe that all Muslims are terrorists. Fact is the vast majority of Muslims are not terrorists. The extremists in the Islamic faith demand and regrettably, through terrorist activity, receive a lot of attention. We have extremists in Christianity too. I recommend Charles Kimball's book When Religion Becomes Evil for a fair and balanced look at how extremism exists in Judaism, Christianity and Islam.

CBF Field Personnel with Persian World Outreach (PWO), are working with Persian-speaking Muslims (mostly Iranians and Afghanis) along the Washington D.C. /New York Interstate 95 corridor. Having moved from the west coast where the largest concentration of Persian-speaking peoples live, the ministry is located in New Jersey ministering to significant Afghan and Iranian populations on the east coast.

Persian World Outreach has started two churches along the I-95 corridor, one in Vienna , Virginia and one in New Jersey that includes Iranians from Delaware , New York , New Jersey and Pennsylvania . They are also building a ministry center to train Iranian and Afghan church leaders and missionaries who will return to their people with the Gospel. Indigenous Christians are more effective in presenting the Good News to the people of Iran and Afghanistan .

CBF Field Personnel are working with Faysal Sharif who is developing work among Arabic-speaking Muslims. Faysal is Glocal Mission Advance Ambassador with the Virginia Baptist Mission Board.

Your help is needed.

Individuals and teams this summer are needed to layout a landscape plan for the PWO Mission Center ; to sow grass, plant flowers and shrubs, mulch; to pour sidewalks; to clear land for a sports/picnic area. Asphalting the driveway is a huge need. It is a job for skilled and appropriately equipped work groups. We are praying for a generous donor who can pay a local contractor, or for a generous paving business in the northern Maryland , southern New Jersey area.

What about your Muslim neighbors? One PWO representative says, “Invite them to your home and then to church. It may take time to build the relationship but this is the way to reach Muslims-God's unconditional love and prayer for those He puts in your path."

Okay, Virginians, let's show some good ol' southern hospitality. Persian World Outreach reminds us to be the presence of Christ to our Muslim neighbors through genuine relationships. They caution against heavy-handed methods of evangelism. Just be a good neighbor and friend and introduce them to Christ through your own life and relationship to Him. Allow the friendship and conversations to develop naturally.

Another PWO representative adds, “There are lots of opportunities. Iranians and Afghans are very hospitable. Iranian women in English classes I taught have asked me over and over if I could help them find an American friend.”
