Millennium Development Goals

SPEAKER OPPORTUNITY

Evangelical leader from overseas as speaker for October 14th

Micah Challenge - MDG Follow Up Opportunity

Message from Tom Prevost

Global Missions Office, Cooperative Baptist Fellowship

Below is a description of an opportunity for one or more CBF-related churches in Virginia to have a international speaker in concert with a Micah Challenge-MDG emphasis on October 14th. Because of action taken by CBFV in behalf of meeting the MDGs, I thought that you might be interested in this. From Krisanne Vaillancourt-Murphy at Bread for the World:

“Micah Challenge Sunday - practical purpose is to remind churches of global suffering and to demonstrate to congregations the amazing forces gathering to achieve the Millennium Development Goals. To give opportunities for Christians of the Global South to be equal partners with Christians in the two-thirds world to achieve lasting solutions for the unnecessary suffering of millions. Micah Challenge Sunday events will highlight the opportunity for US Christians to get involved with the global plan to halve extreme poverty. As you know, the Global Leaders Forum is bringing a number of Global South religious leaders to Washington D.C. (October 11 & 12) who are intimately engaged in issues and programs related to the Millennium Development Goals. Micah Challenge USA would like to connect these international leaders, individually, with additional speaking venues in churches to share their trusted, inspiring testimonies about ending global poverty which have a transformative power that far surpasses second-hand news clips and articles; the power to change hearts and minds.

I can provide additional details about our special international speakers, their areas of expertise, countries of origin etc. We ask that churches interested in hosting a Micah Challenge Sunday speaker be willing to cover costs of the trave for the speaker to and from the host city and church, food, lodging and incidentals for the length of their visit with that church. Most of our international visitors will need to return to Washington in order to connect with flights departing for their home countries. Again, dates and specifics can be worked out on a case by case basis. What is most important to determine soon is the desire of a CBF congregation to host a speaker and Micah Challenge Sunday event and to confirm dates and times.”
