Emerging Opportunities
April 2007 - March 2008

Thanks to the support of Virginia churches and individuals who give through the BGAV missions giving tracks and to its direct contributors, the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship of Virginia has been able to serve as resource for a variety of missional, educational, and CBF-sponsored initiatives this year. Emerging Opportunities CBFV has been able to support since the March 2007 General assembly are listed below.

Virginia Church Start Support - Crossroads Community Church - $3000 – February 2008.
    Support for church start in Zion Crossroads. Regular worship began on February 24. Bruce Hunter, Pastor. Church Website

Virginia Church Start Support - CrossWind Church - $3000 - February 2008.
   
Support for 2008 replant of church from Chesapeake to high-growth area in North Suffolk. Fred Lane, Pastor.

Latino Network - $2500 – February 2008.
   Mission trip support for seven Latino youth who will serve in Hungary and then attend the 2008 Baptist Youth World Conference in Leipzig, Germany, Summer 2008

Watering Malawi Concert and Benefit - $5000 reserve funds from The Samuel Project grant - approved November 2007
   BTSR Student Government Association and CBF of Virginia are sponsoring a one day benefit for Watering Malawi on April 12, 2008 Details on Event

Save the Children - $1500.00 - November 2007
   In response to firestorm damage in San Diego County, CBF’s Disaster Response Team coordinated its efforts with Save the Children Foundation and asked for State/Regional help if possible. Click for Report

New Baptist Covenant (NBC) Assembly - $1500.00 - October 2007
   CBF was asked for and made a $10,000 commitment to support the NBC. CBFV forwarded its contribution to CBF to reflect its strong support of both CBF and the NBC.

Baptist World Aid Millennium Development Goal (MDG) Projects - $2500 - October 2007
   As a follow-through on CBFV’s March 2007 adoption of the MDGs, a second designated contribution was sent to CBF for the BWA MDG projects.

GO (Global Outreach)Team Scholarships - up to $5000 - approved in October 2007
   During the summer of 2008, a Virginia Baptist Collegiate Ministries GO Team will send up to 10 students to Macau to work with CBF missionaries (Ballew’s). CBFV entered a partnership agreement to match BGAV’s sponsorship of $500 per student.

Christian Ministry Internship Program, Baptist Theological Seminary at Richmond - $1500 - October 2007
   In support of CBF’s Strategic Goal of Leadership Development, CBFV entered partnership with BTSR to facilitate internship/mentoring relationship between two young moderate pastors in two small Baptist churches as they support CBF work in Virginia.  Thank You

Current - 11-on-11 Mission Project - $350 - August 2007
   A CBF-sponsored nationwide mission project on or near September 11 each year involving young Baptist leaders. CBFV supported the effort held September 15 in Richmond in partnership with Embrace Richmond by providing T-shirts for volunteers (with CBFV logo) and project financial support.  Current

CBF of Oklahoma - Disaster Relief - $500.00 - August 2007
   Tropical Storm Erin caused loss of new CBF-affiliated Cowboy Country Church, Chickasha, Oklahoma. CBFV responded to nationwide "Church in Trouble" plea for help in rebuilding.    Thank You

CBF Church Planter Boot Camp Workshop - $450 - July 2007
   Joined other Virginia Baptist organizations in helping defray travel cost for Virginian's Barbara Robbins, Debbie Bahr, and Paige Bahr to travel to Waco, Texas, to present a seminar at the annual CBF Church Planter "Boot Camp" regarding their ministry in teambuilding and leadership. - HALT© - . Info on Seminar    Details on HALT

Baptist History and Heritage Society - $500.00 - June 2007
   Joined other organizations in helping defray cost of moving the Society from Brentwood, Tennessee, to Mercer University, Atlanta, Georgia, where it is now co-located with CBF. www.baptisthistory.org

Virginia Baptist Historical Society/Center for Baptist Heritage and Studies in Richmond - $1500 - May 2007
   Sponsored production of a high-quality teaching DVD on Religious Liberty for presentation/distribution at the CBF General Assembly in Washington, D.C. The DVD was subsequently made available to all churches within the BGAV and/or CBFV.

CBF General Assembly Resource Guide - $2500 - April 2007
   In response to CBF request, helped defray the cost of producing Resource Guide that was distributed to each registering participant at the 2007 CBF General Assembly.

Virginia Tech Baptist Collegiate Ministries - $1000 - April 2007
   After campus tragedy, made contribution to show support and appreciation of ongoing staff efforts and to help replenish funds expended by Baptist Collegiate Ministries at Virginia Tech. Click for Response Letters

United Nations Millennium Development Goals (MDG's) - $2500 - April 2007
   As voted at the March CBFV General Assembly; funds were sent via CBF, designated for Baptist World Aid MDG Projects. CBFV's MDG webpage
