Dr. Daniel G. Bagby
Theodore F. Adams Professor of Pastoral Care
Baptist Theological Seminary at Richmond

After the death of Moses the servant of the Lord, the Lord said to Joshua, son of Nun, Moses' aide: "Moses my servant is dead. Now then, you and all these people, get ready to cross the Jordan River into the land I am about to give to them-- to the Israelites. I will give you every place where you set your foot, as I promised Moses." Joshua 1:1-3

California Fires
CBF Disaster Response

As the picture becomes clearer in the California fire disaster, CBF is preparing to respond with long term help. As disasters tend to be, this one is nothing like Katrina. Here we have near total devastation compared to most buildings still standing on the Gulf. Most loss will covered by insurance since this is fire and not a flood. Having made contact with those on the ground in San Diego County we are well aware that no one is welcome into the area until after the fires are extinguished and search and rescue is completed. CBF personnel are scheduled in on Monday the 29th.

At this time our emphasis is on partnering with Save the Children Federation and beginning a 6-12 month venture to offer counseling, day care and after school care to those in need. As we get established we may well find other ways to be the Presence of Christ in the area.

Our request is that every concerned person prays for the safety of those laboring to bring these fires to an end. That the state and nation respond quickly to ease the suffering that this tragedy has inflicted. Lastly, that our people respond with resources to permit us to help the estimated 7,000 children effected by this event. As soon as more positive news is available we will share it with our supporters.
